Alabama's Literacy Mascot, Short the Squirrel, is about to celebrate his fourth birthday.  Monica Anderson Young and Dr. Dee Dupree Bennett talk with Carolyn Hutcheson of In Focus about the creation of the beloved mascot, whose mission is to encourage youngsters to read.  Feb. 22, Short will celebrate his 4th birthday with a virtual party filmed at Landmark Park in Dothan.  Everyone is invited, but must register at the shortthesquirrel.com website by Feb. 12.  Teachers can receive corresponding curriculum to use with existing lesson plans.
