On the 55th anniversary of one of the worst fires in US history, Troy Public Radio's Carolyn Hutcheson speaks with Kyle Gassiott about a new podcast telling the story of the fire and its aftermath. When Dale's Penthouse Restaurant caught fire on a cold February night in downtown Montgomery, no one knew just how quickly the fire would spread and the devastation it would create. Twenty-five people lost their lives and numerous others were saved by the brave actions of restaurant staff.
Gassiott talks about what he has learned about the fire so far and tells listeners how they can help him in his research.

The schools were a joint project of philanthropist Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington to build schools to educate African American children in the rural South in the early 1900s. Many of the schools were still in use until the advent of school integration.
