Meredith "Sunny" Eberhart made history in November of 2021 as the oldest hiker (age 83) to complete the Appalachian Trail.  We talked with the retired optometrist at Flagg Mountain, where he serves as caretaker for the Alabama Forestry Commission's Weogufka State Forest.  His welcome home party took place Nov. 21st, when Governor Kay Ivey sent a proclamation commending his achievement.  His trail name is Nimblewill Nomad, in honor of his previous residence in Nimblewill, Ga., near SpringerMountain, where the Appalachian Trail begins.
